Imagine 350 kids from 27 local schools all working together to celebrate their positive actions for a more sustainable environment. This is what happened at a two day environmental youth event on the Sunshine Coast last week. The Sunshine Coast Kids in Action Conference is hosted by the Sunshine Coast Council and coordinated by Karen at BTE. The event focuses on the “kids teaching kids” methodology and students shared their passion for our beautiful environment through 40 min peer mentoring workshops, main stage performances, static and interactive displays and short films.
The event took place at the Lake Kawana Community Centre and the Maleny Community Precinct and involved local community groups, indigenous cultural leaders, inspirational speakers, artists, environmental educators and over 50 volunteers.
The kids displayed such amazing insight, dedication and positive involvement that it was evident all the adults that these young people are not just the leaders of the future, but active caring citizens of the present.
